How we handle reviews

Who can review

Only a customer who has bought that bundle and finished at least one full test in it can review it. Both are checked against our records every time, not once at sign-up. Nobody else can submit a review — not us, not an affiliate, not a friend with a link. One review per customer per bundle, editable by the reviewer for 30 days; an edited review is read again before it reappears.

Every review is read by a person

Nothing is published automatically. A review is read before it appears, and we publish negative reviews — a page of five-star reviews is not information. A review is rejected, or taken down after publication, only for one of these reasons, and one of them must be chosen every time:

• Abusive, hateful or threatening language
• Spam, advertising or links
• Contains personal information
• Not about this product
• Not written by a customer
• Duplicate of another review

Being critical, or giving a low rating, is not on that list and never will be. Posting exam questions counts as "not about this product". We keep a record of every decision and check the rejection rate by star rating, so that filtering by sentiment — even unintentionally — would show up.

We tell you the decision. When your review is published we email you a link to it. If it is not, we email you which of the reasons above applied, and you can reply to ask us to look again.

When we reply to a review, the reply is labelled as CertCrafter's and appears beneath the review. We never edit a customer's words.

Order and featuring

Reviews are shown newest first, and can be sorted by highest or lowest rating. We may pin up to 3 published reviews at the top of a product's list — favourable or not — and every other published review stays visible below them. Each review shows the month it was written and, if the reviewer chose to say, when they took the real exam and how it went.

What the numbers mean

The average rating is calculated from published reviews only, and is not shown until a bundle has at least 3 of them, because two opinions is not a score. The rating data we mark up for search engines follows the same rule, and exists only for product reviews — never for blog posts.

"Used by N+ candidates" counts distinct people who bought that bundle and still own it. Refunded purchases, our own test orders and $0 orders are excluded. It is not shown below 10 people, and above ten it is rounded down to the nearest ten ("40+" can mean 40 to 49). If a figure includes students of the same course on Udemy, the page says "including N on Udemy", and we keep the dated Udemy dashboard screenshot it came from. Nobody can type these numbers in: they are calculated from our records each time the page asks.

Free access in exchange for a review

We never publish an incentivised review without saying so. If a reviewer received the bundle free or at a discount in exchange for an honest review, it carries a visible "Received free access in exchange for an honest review" label. We do not pay for reviews, we do not ask for a particular rating, and we do not trade a refund for a review being changed or withdrawn.

Asking for reviews

We email once, about a week after your first completed test, to ask for an honest review, and once more two weeks later if you have not. After a full timed test we may also ask once on the results screen. Then we stop. We ask everyone the same way, whatever they scored — not only people we expect to be pleased.

Blog comments and "Was this helpful?"

Anyone can tell us whether a blog post was helpful, with an optional note that only we read. Comments on blog posts come from signed-in readers, are read by a person before they appear, and are rejected only for the same reasons listed above. Blog posts carry no star ratings. We may reply publicly, labelled as CertCrafter.
